Maureen's favourite tree...

Created by Kathryn 10 years ago
My Mam's favourite tree was a sycamore tree because she could recognise it's leaves immediately. The sycamore was first introduced as a shade tree to give respite from the sun in parks and gardens and Mam loved to be outside. She and Dad took my brother and I and then our children to many National Trust houses for picnics, sitting under the shade of her sycamore trees. The winged seeds known as ‘helicopters’ were used in flying competitions. Sycamore wood is used to make 'love spoons' in Wales. These wedding gifts are linked with rings and were traditionally made from a single piece of wood, my romantic little Mama would love this notion.... I Love You Mam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
